The POC addresses developments worldwide, except for the USA, relating
to health and environmental issues concerning organic pigments. The main
focus is on Europe. USA is excluded because the U.S. industry is represented
by the Color Pigments Manufacturers Association.
Key activities are:
- Regulatory issues
POC seeks, through cooperation with the
responsible authorities, to ensure that there is a scientifically-sound,
risk-based and cost-effective approach to regulations. Current issues are
environmental fate, eco labelling, recycling of plastic waste, and the
performance and quality specifications for food packaging and toys.
- Non-regulatory restrictions on product use
Non-regulatory
bodies are increasingly proposing ecological- and toxicological-based
standards. ETAD seeks to assist such organisations to establish criteria
relevant to the protection of consumers or the environment, whilst avoiding
unwarranted discrimination of specific products.
- Cooperation with other industry organisations
Good
cooperation is maintained with related pigment manufacturing associations
and the customer industry associations.
- Product stewardship
Several brochures and advisories have
been issued to inform users on the safe use of pigments.
