ETAD NORTH AMERICA

ETAD North America furthers the efforts of the North American dye manufacturing industry in addressing health, safety and environmental issues.

It is recognized by regulatory authorities, customers, and the public as an authoritative source of information on the technical aspects of organic dyes.

Major ETAD North America programs include:

DyeCare®
A product stewardship program providing education and training in all phases of handling dyes including environmental impact, pollution prevention, health effects, industrial hygiene, exposure, work practices, and hazard communication.

Exposure Reduction
An industry-government collaboration advocating exposure reduction as the most desirable and cost effective risk management strategy for dye use. Promotes improvement in many areas such as dye packaging, weighing room ventilation, dust monitoring, and safe work practices.

Toxicology
Research and testing on the safety and biological behavior of dyes. Examples include a skin permeability study showing no significant penetration of three commercial dyes in human skin and a testing program on a commercially important dye resulting in its removal from EPA's priority testing list.

Environment
Cooperative research with government, industry, and academia to better understand fate and impact of dyes in the environment. Current efforts include studies of C.I. Disperse Blue 79:1, metal-complexed dyes, and waste management-disposal practices.

Pollution Prevention
A joint program initiated with EPA to implement pollution prevention at dye manufacturing facilities. Provides guidance and tools for identifying opportunities, measuring reductions in waste generation, describing case studies, and managing an effective program.
